The East Grand girls finally saw their first action of the basketball season Saturday, while most of the other local squads had the night off due to poor weather conditions. Weather thus far has not tremendously impacted local basketball games.
Houlton and Southern Aroostook both sport 2-0 records on the season, while East Grand is 1-0, Katahdin is 1-3 and Hodgdon is 0-3.
The following is a recap of games played through Monday.
Schenck 43, Katahdin 21 — At Stacyville Monday, Anna Sewell netted 13 points to lead the Wolverines of East Millinocket, while teammate Baileigh Osborne added 10 points.
Hannah Drew had six points to pace Katahdin.
East Grand 35, Van Buren 17 — At Van Buren Saturday, Sarah Stoddard netted 18 points to lead the Vikings past Van Buren, while Mallory Gilman chipped in 13.
Leah Gendreau paced Van Buren with 12 points.
Hodgdon 47, Fort Kent 56 — At Fort Kent Saturday, Libby LaPointe scored eight of her 12 points in the third quarter as Fort Kent pulled away to defeat Hodgdon. Jordan O’Leary contributed eight points for the Warriors.
Janelle Goff had 15 points and Sydney Howell 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Hawks.
Penquis 61, Katahdin 36 — At Katahdin Thursday, the Cougars struggled to find an offensive rhythm against Penquis.
For Penquis, Jordan Durant and Camryn Rolfe each scored 14 points, Megan Volvo chipped in with 10 points. For Katahdin, Georgia Landry scored 20 points and Hannah Drew had 15 rebounds.
Washburn 31, Southern Aroostook 68 — At Dyer Brook Dec. 14, Southern Aroostook outscored Washburn 21-3 in the first quarter and never looked back en route to victory. The Warriors led 31-8 by halftime and 49-20 after three periods.
Sydney Brewer led the Warriors with 21 points, while Kacy Daggett tossed in 20, Kylie Vining added 12 and Maddison Cummings had 10.
Kassandra Farley scored 16 points for Washburn.
Katahdin 53, Bangor Christian 30 — At Bangor Dec. 13, Georgia Landry connected for 27 points as Katahdin of Stacyville defeated Bangor Christian.
Natalie Richards contributed 12 points and Haley Landry 10 for the Cougars.
Kelsea Deroche led Bangor Christian with 16 points.
Hodgdon 46, Washburn 49 — At Hodgdon Dec. 13, Maggie Castonguay tallied 18 points as Washburn edged Hodgdon. Kassie Farley added 10 points for the Beavers.
Janelle Goff led the Hawks with 15 points, while Sydney Howell added 13. Washburn led 9-8, 22-18 and 34-26 at the quarter breaks.
