HOULTON, Maine — The 5th annual Bill Weber Alumni hockey games will hit the ice at the Millar Civic Center on Friday, Dec. 23 at 6 p.m. Come watch former Houlton skaters as they test their hockey skills against each other in a friendly competition.
There will be a 50/50 raffle that will benefit the Southern Aroostook Minor Hockey Association. Admission is free and there will be hot chocolate for spectators. Concession will also be available.
“Dad (Bill Weber) grew up playing pond hockey in Hartsdale, New York and moved up here in early 1970’s and played hockey at Ricker,” his son Chris Weber said. “He was always involved in hockey since I started at age 5. There was never a season where he wasn’t coaching, not necessarily my team, at whatever level the association needed him.”
Chris added his father was “famous for rollerblading around town during the off season with headphones and a bandana.”
Bill Weber passed away in July 2011, and his son has held the alumni games each year in his father’s memory. “Fair play was his first priority,” Chris said. “Winning never mattered. He always made sure every kid had a fair chance and most importantly had fun playing this great sport.”
