HOULTON — Phillip M. Grant, Sr., 73, passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2016 while surrounded by his loving family at a Bangor hospital. He was born Nov. 15, 1943 in Houlton, the son of Merrill and Marguerite (Lougee) Grant.
Phil grew up in New Limerick and attended local schools. He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17 and was an Airborne Ranger. Upon his discharge, Phil came back to Houlton and married Carol Williams, together they raised four children. Phil served as a swing man as driver/EMT for 14 years for the Houlton Fire & Ambulance. He was manager of Wilbert Vault of Aroostook for Dunn Funeral Home, also doing maintenance and groundwork around the funeral home. He was a hard worker, good man, a great provider and a strong willed man of few words.
Phil is survived by his children, Phillip M. Grant, Jr. and his wife, Dawn of Newbury, NH, Crystal Grant and her significant other, Eric Dyer, Kara Sheldon and her husband, Ryan all of Houlton, Travis Grant and his girlfriend, Stacy Cunn-ingham of Hampden; stepson, Carmen Leavitt of Houlton; 14 grandchildren, Nicholas Grant, Brandon McGuire, Tyler Grant, Lauren Grant, Logan Grant, Taylor Graham, Courtney Grant, Lily Leavitt, Noah Grant, Garrison Leavitt, Gavin Grant, Paige Royal, Hope Royal and Ava Sheldon; his former wife and special friend, Ruthann Grant of Houlton; his brother, Bob Grant of CT; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his son, Kevin; his brother, Francis Grant;and his sister Waneta Lougee.
