For Hodgdon, the Christmas break was extra special as the Hawks (1-5) secured their first win of the year Dec. 23. Southern Aroostook is 3-0 on the year, while East Grand is 2-0; Houlton is 4-0; and Katahdin is 1-4.
The following is a recap of games played through Monday that were reported to the newspaper.
Katahdin 28 Stearns 84 — At Millinocket Friday, the Cougars struggled against Class C powerhouse Stearns (6-0). Emma Alley netted 23 points, while Katherine Alley contributed 15 points and Peighton Ingersoll had 14 for the Minutemen.
Georgia Landry paced Katahdin with 17 points.
Fort Fairfield 25, Hodgdon 39 — At Hodgdon Friday, the Hawks soared to their first win of the season. Sydney Howell led Hodgdon with 12 points, while Kora Lambert added 10 points.
Cami King-Demerchant paced Fort Fairfield with 10 points.
The two teams were tied 4-4 at the end of the first quarter, and 13-13 at halftime before Hodgdon slowly pulled away to lead 22-17 after three periods.
Hodgdon 34, East Grand 36 — At Danforth Thursday, Jordyn Cowger hit a running jumper late in regulation to put the Vikings up as they beat Hodgdon. Sarah Stoddard paced East Grand with 13 points. Mallory Gillman had eight points for the Vikings.
Taylor Derosier had 16 points to lead Hodgdon, while Kora Lambert and Sidney Howell both had six.
East Grand led 4-2, 14-4 and 24-20 at the quarter breaks.
Houlton 66, Mattanawcook Academy 32 — At Lincoln Thursday, Kolleen Bouchard scored her 1,000th career point as she netted 25 points to lead Houlton past Mattanawcook Academy. Rylee Warman contributed 22 points for the Shires.
Natalie Tilton paced the Lynx with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Houlton led 21-15, 47-19 and 57-27 at the quarter breaks.
Ashland 16, SACS 60 — At Dyer Brook Wednesday, Dec. 21, the Southern Aroostook girls continued their impressive unbeaten streak with a commanding win over Ashland. The Warriors dominated from the onset, bolting to a 22-0 lead in the first quarter. That lead grew to 35-5 at halftime and 48-9 after three periods.
Kylie Vining and Sydney Brewer both netted 16 points and added 10 rebounds for the Warriors, while Madison Cummings added 10 points and Kacy Daggett had nine.
Morgan Doughty paced Ashland with eight points.
