Larry Park of Presque Isle displays a piece of his “woodpile art.” SH FRIDAYRECEPTION 01 17 19460572 His works, including wood and photography, will be on display at Wintergreen Arts Center through January. An opening reception is planned this Friday, Jan. 6, 6-8 p.m. The public is welcome.

The opening reception, “Through the Lens of a Farmer,” will be held on Friday, Jan. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. during the First Friday Downtown Art Walk.
Refreshments will be served and live fiddle music provided by Garold Hanscom, founder of the Wednesday Evening Fiddlers of Perth-Andover, N.B. Park, also well-known for playing old-time country music at local venues over the decades, will join in on banjo and guitar.
The evening event is free and open to the public.
From photos he took as a youngster of 1940s-era Presque Isle to shots capturing the essence of his life in agriculture, Park’s photography is complemented by his eye for what he fondly calls woodpile art. Tree burls, twisted trunks and fungi are often viewed as the forest’s misfits, but Park lovingly rubs and polishes them into an art form meant to warm the nature lover in everyone.
The artist also creates functional art from castoff wooden treasures. Some pieces are for sale and others only for viewing. The entire show will be hung and on display for the month of January.
The public is welcome to attend Friday’s reception and to view the show throughout the period.
