Warrior boys stay perfect on season

Boys basketball squads remained busy during the holiday break, with a number of games played. Southern Aroostook remains unbeaten on the season with an impressive 6-0 record. The Warriors are currently the top seed in Class D North.

Greater Houlton Christian Academy (2-4) has played tough in a number of games, but the Eagles are currently outside the playoff picture at No. 11. The top 10 teams make the playoffs in Class D North. Katahdin (1-6) is 14th and East Grand (0-5) is 15th.

Hodgdon (5-2) is presently fourth in Class C North, while Houlton (3-2) has moved up to 10th in Class B North.

The following is a recap of games played through Monday that were reported to the newspaper.

Hodgdon 70, Katahdin 55 — At Stacyville Monday, the Hawks outscored Katahdin 17-8 in the third quarter to break open a close game. Kevin McAfee led Hodgdon with 20 points, while Daden Palmer add 12.

For Katahdin, Brody Guiggey scored 17 points, while Hunter Craig had 15 and Devin McGraw chipped in 13.

Hodgdon led 18-15, 37-32 and 54-40 at the quarter breaks.

East Grand 33, Ashland 38 — At Ashland Dec. 31, Thomas Gilman paced East Grand with 10 points while Brady McEwen added eight as the Vikings fell to Ashland in a tightly contested game.

Kyle Beaulier scored seven of his game-high 12 points from the foul line to help the Hornets beat the Vikings, while Lucas Craig added 10 points for the winners.

Ashland led 9-7, 21-19 and 29-28 at the quarter breaks.

East Grand 26, GHCA 49 — At Hodgdon Dec. 30, individual results were not reported.

Hodgdon 43, Southern Aroostook 53 — At Dyer Brook Dec. 29, SACS’ Jackson Mathers led all players with 21 points as the Warriors pulled away from Hodgdon in the second half. Nolan Altvater scored 13 points and Tyler Batchelder posted nine for Southern Aroostook.

Daden Palmer led Hodgdon with 17 points, with Kevin McAfee and Matt Tuttle each tossing in nine points.

East Grand 33, Woodland 64 — At Baileyville, Dec. 28, Thomas Gilman led the Vikings with 15 points, while Matthew Potter added eight as East Grand fell to Woodland.

Riley Russell tallied 24 points and nine rebounds for the Dragons while Chris Plissey added 12.

Woodland led 20-2, 36-13 and 50-23 at the quarter breaks.

GHCA 57, Southern Aroostook 73 — At Dyer Brook Dec. 27, Jackson Mathews led four players in double figures with 17 points as the Warriors rolled past Greater Houlton Christian Academy. Nolan Altvater and Garrett Siltz tallied 14 points apiece for Southern Aroostook, with Tyler Batchelder adding 11.

Cole Winslow netted 18 points for GHCA, while Jed Grant and Ethan Jaques both had eight.

Southern Aroostook led 17-8, 39-19 and 55-37 at the quarter breaks.

Schenck 81, Katahdin 25 — At Stacyville Dec. 27, Brody Guiggey netted nine points and John McNally chipped in eight for Katahdin but it was not enough against Schenck. Chris King tossed in 23 points to pace the Wolverines of East Millinocket, while Travis Thompson contributed 20 points and Justin Thompson added 19.

Schenck led 25-8, 46-12 and 66-19 at the quarter breaks.

Washburn 56, Hodgdon 70 — At Hodgdon Dec. 27, Daden Palmer paced four Hodgdon players in double figures with 16 points in the win over Washburn. Kevin McAfee chipped in 14 points, while Josh Palmer and Dillan Buzzell each had 10 points in the win.

Washburn’s McCall Turner led all players with 25 points, while Caleb Thompson added 18 and Quintin Thompson had 10.

Hodgdon led 22-4, 33-19 and 58-32 at the quarter breaks.
