Library project
The Walter T.A. Hansen Memorial Library will be participating in the Chickadee Award: A Maine Children’s Choice Picture Book Project. Participating children in grades K-4 are the ones who will choose the award winner by voting for their favorite from among 10 selected books published in 2016. The 10 books were chosen by a committee of teachers, librarians and early literacy professionals.
The project began on Jan. 7 and ends on March 11, when voting will take place.
The Chickadee Award Project is funded by the Maine Association of School Libraries. For more information, visit the chickadee website at www.chickadeeaward.org.
Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Jan. 3 at the Aroostook Health Center and the guest speaker was Olivia Garrison, who spoke about her Walt Disney World internship through her college program.
She spent three months working at one of the Animal World gift shops. The program started with two weeks of training, learning about Walt Disney and the beginnings of Disney. They were to be ready to answer any questions that visitors may have about Disney World.
She was housed on the property with several roommates and had a great time. She worked hard and learned a lot, but had time to enjoy the entire park as well. She is a senior at UMPI and will graduate in December 2017.
