HOULTON, Maine — RSU 29 superintendent Ellen Schneider will be with the district for several years to come after the school board extended her contract Monday evening through the 2020-21 school year.

Schneider, who joined the school district in July 2015, is a native of Presque Isle, who been in education for the past 30 years. Prior to coming to Houlton, she served as the Wells-Ogunquit superintendent for the two years and before that worked 26 years for SAD 1.

As part of her contract extension, Schneider received a 3 percent increase in her salary. At the time she was hired in 2015, she was given an annual salary of $105,000.

“We are extremely happy with the job Ellen is doing,” RSU 29 board chairman Fred Grant said. “During our board evaluation, she scored above our expectations on just about everything. In comparison to the rest of the state, we feel very fortunate to have her.”

By giving Schneider a four-year contract extension, Grant said he felt it sends a message to the community of the type of job she is doing.

“The extension of her contract until 2021 is a testament of our satisfaction,” Grant said. “The entire board is very pleased with the direction she is taking our district.”
