Works of Heart closing shop, taking business online

CARIBOU, ME — Works of Heart, an Amish furniture outlet that offers Maine-made products, will be closing their doors at the end of the month and offering their products exclusively online.

Store owner David Marrett said that the online ordering process is “fully functional and user friendly,” adding that they have been offering products online for the past 18 months.

As for the store’s closure, Marrett said the decision to close came from closely paying attention to recent economic events.

“We’ve been watching the economy turn south for the past couple years, starting with the Canadian dollar going bad,” Marrrett said. “Major layoffs and store closings have also been taking place due to the economy.”

The price of doing business at a physical location has also taken its toll, and contributed to Marrett’s decision to move online.

“This building costs over $30,000 a year to support,” Marrett said. “There are a lot of little things that add up.”
