MONTICELLO, ME — A Caribou man remained in the Aroostook County Jail Monday after leading police on a high speed chase Friday.
Samuel Ingersoll, 23, of Caribou was arrested Friday near the Blue Moose Restaurant on U.S. Route 1 after initially refusing to stop for a deputy in Bridgewater.
According to Aroostook County Sheriff Darrell Crandall, Fort Fairfield Police issued a bulletin to area police agencies seeking a black, Nissan Altima being operated by Ingersoll. The individual was wanted in connection with a domestic violence assault following the investigation of an incident in Fort Fairfield.
Around 9:30 a.m. Friday, Lt. Larry Goff of the sheriff’s office spotted the vehicle traveling south on U.S. Route 1 in Bridgewater, by the Snow Road intersection, and immediately started pursuit.
“Ingersoll, who was alone in the vehicle, accelerated to reckless speeds and refused to stop for the deputy sheriff who was signaling with lights and siren for him to do so,” Crandall said.
Several additional deputies, state troopers, U.S. Border Patrol agents and Houlton police officers moved into positions to intercept the vehicle along Route 1.
“Ingersoll, for reasons yet unknown, eventually slowed and then stopped in the parking lot of the Blue Moose Restaurant in Monticello,” Crandall said. “After ignoring several commands to get out of his vehicle, he eventually complied and was taken into custody without further incident.”
Sheriff’s deputies found methamphetamine and illegally-possessed prescription drugs in the vehicle. Ingersoll, who was believed to be under the influence of methamphetamines according to the report, was taken to the Aroostook County Jail.
The Sheriff’s Office charged Ingersoll with eluding an officer, operating after suspension, possession of methamphetamine and possession of prescription drugs. He also was charged with domestic violence assault and obstructing report of a crime on behalf of Fort Fairfield Police.
