Offense sputters as Caribou teams swept by Hermon

Hermon girls 57, Caribou 29

     The host Hawks won their 10th in a row Monday by shutting down the Vikes, holding them scoreless in the third quarter to break open a close game.

Emi Higgins had 15 to lead 10-1 Hermon, whose only loss came in its opener at Presque Isle. Gabrielle Marquis reached double figures for the 3-9 Vikes with 10. Coach Ryan Deprey’s team has a few days off before resuming its regular season schedule Saturday against Mattanawcook Academy in Lincoln.

Hermon boys 56, Caribou 22

     The red-hot Hawks outscored the visiting Vikes in the second and third quarters Monday by a 32-9 margin to win going away in Hermon.

     Garrett Trask led the Hawks with 18 and Alex Bouchard’s seven were tops for Caribou, which has now lost eight in a row and is 2-9 overall. The Vikes hope to break the losing streak as they make up a home game against Fort Kent Wednesday and travel to Lincoln to play Mattanawcook Academy Saturday.

Southern Aroostook girls 57, Fort Fairfield 27

     In the only other game in the region Monday, Sydney Brewer, a freshman, had 17 points as the Class D Warriors improved to 9-0 with the easy home win over the Tigers. Eighth-grader Kacy Daggett and Katelyn Slauenwhite tallied 11 each for the winners, while Fort Fairfield, a Class C team, fell to 5-7. Emma Campbell had 10 points for the Tigers, who host Central Aroostook Wednesday.
