Children’s Stage Adventures and Shakespeare are coming back to town, and auditions for the production of “Shakespeare’s Midsummer Dream” will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 23, at the Washburn District Elementary School gymnasium.
Approximately 50 children, grades 1-8 (WDES students only who submitted their permission slips) will be cast to appear in the show with CSA’s professional actor/educators.
The performances will take place on Friday, Jan. 27, at 1 p.m. for students and at 6:30 p.m. for the community and guests. Tickets will be on sale at the door.
“Shakespeare’s Midsummer Dream” is a new musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s romantic comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” written to be performed by 50 children. When four friends run away from their problems at home they end up in an even bigger mess in an enchanted forest, inhabited by fairies, sprites and magic flowers. When local workmen stumble into the forest, mistaken identity and mischievous practical jokes ensue.
Children planning to audition should arrive by the scheduled starting time and plan to stay for the entire two-hour session. No advanced preparation is necessary.
Rehearsals will be conducted from 2:30 to 7 p.m. every day of the week prior to performances. Although not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire week, and if selected, be able to attend all rehearsals for their role.
A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of the auditions. Cast members scheduled to rehearse for the full four hours in one day will be served snacks and a light meal thanks to community support and the After School Program staff taking their time to cook.
The first rehearsal will begin about 30 minutes after the auditions. Approximately 15 children will need to stay for this important first rehearsal. Snacks will be provided.
Morgan Swan of Woodland and Eric Monzel of North Ferrisburgh, Vt., will be the team of actor/educators from Children’s Stage Adventures. This is their first tour with CSA, though both have extensive backgrounds working with children in theatre.
The residency in Washburn is made possible by the Washburn Schools District, Washburn 21st Century ASP, The Aroostook Partners in the Arts, Old Iron Inn and everyone in the community.
Come out and support the youth of your community while enjoying a great show.
On Dec. 14, Mrs. Walker took seventh- and eighth-grade students to Problem Solving Day at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
Ashton Henry, Beckam Vaughn, Patrick Tardie II, and Arianna Elliott did a great job representing WDES in such a positive way.
They joined middle school students from across Aroostook County to engage in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) activities. They worked with students from other districts on four different competitive tasks which required them to collaborate to come up with a winning solution.
