This fundraiser is the library’s largest each year and helps enlarge its collection.

Evening hours for library

The library will be doing a three-month trial of extended night hours in February, March and April, 2017. Due to requests for more evening hours, the library will be open from 12:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If this is well received by patrons, it will become the new standard. Please pass the word!

Rotary Club

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Jan. 10, 2017 at the Aroostook Health Center and the guest speaker was Dr. Chunzeng Wang, a professor of earth and environmental sciences at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
He teaches geology, environmental geology, GIS and renewable energy resources. He has developed GIS partnerships with major cities, towns and organizations in Aroostook County and works on various GIS projects in the community with his students.
He and some of his students have used this new technology to map out King’s Grove Cemetery in Mars Hill. Using drones with high resolution cameras, there are now aerial images and maps of each section of the cemetery. They also have GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) which allows them to detect unmarked burial sites.
