SUMMERSON, Sarah Buckley, 82, Kennebunk and Presque Isle, Biddeford, January 8, 2017. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 21, at 2 p.m., at Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk. Arrangements are under the care of Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk.
KENNEBUNK & PRESQUE ISLE — Sarah Buckley Summerson, 82, died on January 8, 2017, with her family by her side at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford after a brief illness. Sarah was born on April 19, 1934, in Buffalo, NY, to parents Grace Marion (George) Buckley and Malcolm Buckley, Sr.
She graduated from Buffalo Seminary in 1952 and later from Mount Holyoke College, So. Hadley, MA, with a degree in Chemistry in 1956.
Sarah met her husband of 49 years, Dr. Thomas Summerson, Jr., while working as a Chemist Assistant at Tufts Dental School in Boston, MA. They married in 1957 and moved to Germany, where Tom was stationed as a dentist in the U.S. Army. They later moved to Presque Isle where they raised their three children and she managed the accounting of the dental business alongside her husband. Sarah was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Presque Isle and worked with the Presque Isle Housing Authority for many years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Thomas Summerson, Jr., (deceased 2006); and brother, Malcolm Buckley, Jr., of Hamburg, NY (deceased 2016).
Sarah is survived by her three children, David Summerson and wife, Sandra of York, ME, Susan Summerson and partner, Gerry Brown of Gilford, NH, and John Summerson and wife, Xiaoxiang of Andover, MA; five grandchildren, Meghan and Mitchell Summerson, Jeremy and Sarah Fitzpatrick, and Miles Summerson.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017, from 1 to 2 p.m., in Kennebunk, followed by a Funeral Service at 2 p.m., at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk. A service will be held this summer in Presque Isle. Date and time to be announced.
