HOULTON — Young hockey players have been busy the past few weekends playing many games both home and away.
The Arooostook Auto Tech Peewees traveled to Presque Isle over Christmas break for a mid week match up against the Presque Isle peewees. The local squad fell 5-4. Scoring goals for AAT were Maddie Marino (3 goals) and Lucas Gregory, while Josh McGillicuddy had two assists and Garrett Fitzpatrick added one assist. Natalie DeLucca and Riley Fitzpatrick played well defensively, while goalie Ciaran Johnson had a solid game.
On Saturday, Jan. 7, the AAT Peewees hosted Presque Isle, winning 4-3. Marino, Elijah Neureuther and Garrett Fitzpatrick scored goals for AAT. The fourth goal was not reported. Defensively, Lucas Matheson and Jed Gilpatrick had strong games.
On Saturday, Jan. 14, the Carleton Doom traveled to Houlton to meet up with the AAT peewees, with the local squad winning 5-1. Marino, Fitzpatrick, McGillicuddy, Konnor Lynds and Neurether all scored solo goals.
On Sunday, Jan. 15, the team from Victoria-Tobique met up with the Aroostook Auto Tech Peewees at the John A. Millar Civic Center in Houlton. AAT pulled off an exciting 5-4 victory. Lynds and Gilpatrick both scored two goals, while Marino added a solo goal, while Fitzpatrick had an assist.
Next weekend the Aroostook Auto Tech Peewees travel south to take part in the Maine Junior Blackbears Friendship Tournament.
On Sunday, Jan.15, the Varney Agency bantams hosted SAM out of Augusta and picked up a 3-1 victory. Jason Collett scored two goals while Kurtis Reynolds added one. Getting assists on the goals were Collett, Reynolds and Gavin Vining.
Playing SAM in an exhibition game afterwards, Varney Agency was victorious 4-2. Vining scored two goals, while Logan Swallow and Reynolds each had one. Houlton played stingy on defense with good efforts by John Cumming and Caydon Campbell. And a strong performance by goalie Seth Bagwell, who let up only three goals in the two games. Jay Tuck offered a strong supportive effort on offense, as did Josh McGillicuddy in his first Bantam game.
