The Caribou Nordic ski teams continued their dominance in competitions held within Aroostook County as the girls and boys each claimed team victories at a sprint event held Jan. 18 at Caribou High School.
The Viking girls had four of the top five finishers to compile a score of 10 points. Fort Kent followed with 33, while Ashland, Fort Fairfield and MSSM followed in order.
Presque Isle’s Izzy Jackson was the winner on the 3.5-kilometer course with a time of 10 minutes and 34.1 seconds. The remainder of the top five consisted of Kendra Furber (11:19.3), Madeline Gudde (11:36.5), Jojo Fields (11:48) and Ciara Richards (11:48.1), all of the victorious Vikings.
Dolcie Tanguay led Fort Kent by placing sixth overall in 12:03.7 and teammate Paige Hebert was seventh in 12:29.1. Erin Kashian of Caribou, Kassandra Nelson of Ashland and Rachel Ring of Caribou made up the remainder of the top 10 out of the 28 competitors.
Jessica Halsey paced Fort Fairfield with her 15th-place effort and Naomi Kihn was tops for MSSM, placing 18th.
On the boys’ side, Caribou prevailed with 26 points, just ahead of runner-up Fort Kent and its 30-point total. Presque Isle was next and Ashland and MSSM took fourth and fifth, respectively.
The individual champion was Max Bartley, who completed the course in 8:58.3. Behind him was David Roy of Fort Kent in 9:14.9, with Bryce Coffin of Caribou third in 9:27.1, Paddy Keith-Hardy of MSSM fourth in 9:39.4 and Alec Cyr of Caribou fifth with a 9:40.5 clocking.
The rest of the top 10 was made up of Matt Kelly of Fort Kent, Tristan Pelletier of Ashland, Emerson Duplissie-Cyr of Caribou, Niko Naranja of Fort Kent and Evan Desmond of Caribou. The boys’ race featured a total of 31 racers.
