The Caribou Vikings’ basketball teams make the trip down to Lincoln Saturday, with the girls playing at 1:30 p.m. and the boys at 4:30 p.m. against the Mattanawcoook Academy Lynx.

The Caribou boys snapped an eight-game losing streak Wednesday with a 58-51 win over Fort Kent and will be shooting for their fourth win of the season against the 1-11 Lynx. A win is important as they are barely hanging on to the 12th and final playoff spot in Class B North.

Coach Ryan Deprey’s Viking girls are 3-9 and also still very much alive for a post-season berth in the division. They are currently in 11th place with a 3-9 record, with the top 12 teams advancing.

There are no games scheduled for Friday involving local teams, but on Saturday Ashland makes the trip to Limestone to play LCS/MSSM. The teams met on Wednesday in Ashland, with the Hornet girls and Eagle boys coming away with victories. The girls’ game is at 2 p.m. and the boys play at 3:30 p.m.

Also in boys action, a pair of hot teams go at it as the Greater Houlton Christian Academy boys, who have won five of their last six, travel to Fort Fairfield to take on the 10-1 Tigers, winners of eight in a row, for a 6 p.m. contest. Rivals Washburn and Central Aroostook will meet for the first time this season in Mars Hill at 7 p.m.

The following are summaries of Thursday’s games in Limestone, which were the only games involving local teams.

Van Buren girls 41, LCS/MSSM 31

The Crusaders picked up their second win of the season Thursday as they outscored the Eagles, 25-4, in the first half and held on.

Leah Gendreau scored 14 points and Tiffany Morrow 13 for the Crusaders (2-10). Taylor Labreck reached double figures in points with 11 and Stephanie Bragg added eight for the Eagles, now 2-9.

GHCA boys 40, LCS/MSSM 32

In a battle of the Eagles in Limestone Thursday, GHCA got over the .500 mark on the season and ended LCS/MSSM’s two-game winning streak as they battled back from a five-point deficit early in the fourth quarter to take the win. Isaac Potter had 12 points for GHCA and Alex Sprague notched 10 to lead LCS/MSSM.

GHCA is now 6-5 and in seventh place in Class D, while LCS/MSSM is 4-7 and in 13th in Class C.
