BRUNSWICK, Maine — Maddie Wing turned in a top-8 performance for Carlisle at the Class A state swim championships, held Feb. 21 at Bowdoin College.
The Presque Isle High School junior took eighth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5 minutes and 49.08 seconds. She also competed in the 200 free and was 12th in 2:07.9.
Three relay teams were also in action that day. In the 200 medley, Abby Raymond, Grace Kurtz, Kristyn Maley and Riley McNeal finished in 2:26.98 to take 22nd place. The team of Kyra Thibeault, Abby Raymond, Elizabeth Deschenes and Maley placed 21st in the 200 free in 2:10.7 and Wing, McNeal, Abby Espling and Maley took part in the 400 free and the team was 21st in 4:32.22.
Cassidy Coiley represented Fort Fairfield High School and was 15th in a pair of individual events. She swam the 200 free in 2:12.52 and the 100 back in 1:10.33.
The boys’ state meet was held Feb. 20, also at Bowdoin. Nate Gere, a senior at MSSM, had the top performance for Carlisle by taking 19th in the 100 fly in 1:01.84 and 22nd in the 200 free in 2:06.71.
Leigh Buck placed one spot behind Gere in the 100 fly with a time of 1:02.76 and also was 30th in the 50 free in 25.43 seconds.
Taking 32nd in the 100 back was Jason Bernaiche in 1:10.76.
For the relays, Harrison Ma, Jay Philbrick, Gere and Buck placed 19th in the 200 medley in 2:03.26 and Buck, Philbrick, Ma and Gere competed in the 200 free and they had a clocking of 1:48.8.
