LITTLETON, Maine — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension will hold its annual Maine Grain Conference Monday, March 13, 9 a.m.–4:15 p.m., at the Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum, 1664 U.S. Highway 1, Littleton.
This year’s conference will focus on alternative crops and markets, and precision-guided cultivation systems, with guest speakers from Wisconsin, Manitoba, New Brunswick and Maine.
Topics include diversifying with organic and conventional crops and markets on a 5,000-acre family farm; cultivating organic grains and other crops with video-guided hoes for weed control; and an overview of results from cereal and oilseed research conducted in Maritime Canada and Maine.
Participants will receive three pesticide certification credits and five Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) credits.
An optional breakfast and speaker panel on Organic Grain Markets and Marketing, sponsored by the Organic Grain Collaboration, will precede the event.
The $30 fee ($40 after March 7) includes lunch and a morning snack. Preregistration is required by March 9.
