Woodland Winter Carnival may be postponed

WOODLAND, Maine — The 58th Woodland Winter Carnival may be postponed due to forecasts of sub-zero weather.

Woodland Consolidated School Principal Susie Schloeman said the local PTA will make a final decision regarding whether or not to host the popular outdoor event this weekend or next during a Friday meeting.

Schloeman added that the PTA is also primarily involved in organizing the event, and has done so for many years.

“This is the PTA’s big project for the year,” Schloeman said. “They help organize the event, and there are also plenty of volunteers, staff, and parents who help out during the carnival.”

Whether it lands on March 11 or 18, the four-hour festival will still take place at Woodland Consolidated School. Racing starts at 8:45 a.m., and the presentation of awards, along with the crowning of a king and queen, will occur at 1 p.m. Events slated for this year’s winter carnival include tubing, skiing, snowboarding, a ski dash, snowshoeing, tobogganing, and a three-legged race.

Schloeman said students will know the PTA’s decision by early Friday afternoon and notes will be sent home with children to inform parents of the date.
