PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Recreation Department is accepting pre-paid registrations for its March 27 to May 6 session of swimming lessons. Registrations will be accepted through March 24 either in person at the Sargent Community Center or by going online at pirec.org.
Lessons take place at Gentile Hall on the University of Maine Presque Isle campus. The following classes have openings:
Parent/Toddler (6 months to 3 years), which requires an adult to be in the water, is offered Tuesdays, 9-9:25 a.m.; Thursdays, 6-6:25 p.m.; or Saturdays, 9-9:25 a.m.
PRE 1 (ages 3-5), for those not comfortable in the water, has openings Fridays, 9-9:25 a.m.
PRE 2 (ages 3-5), for those comfortable in the water, meets Tuesdays, 9:30-9:55 a.m., 3:30-3:55 p.m. and 4-4:25 p.m.; Wednesdays, 9-9:25 a.m., 3:30-3:55 p.m. and 4-4:25 p.m.; Thursdays, 5-5:25 p.m. and 6:30-6:55 p.m.; Fridays, 9:30-9:55 a.m.; or Saturdays, 9:30-9:55 a.m.
PRE 3 (ages 3-5), swimming, is offered Tuesdays, 3:30-3:55 p.m. and 4:30-4:55 p.m.; Wednesdays, 4:30-4:55 p.m.; Thursdays, 5:30-5:55 p.m.; or Saturdays, 9-9:25 a.m.
Learn to Swim 1 is for children 6-12 years old. Please see Learn to Swim 2 for lesson availability.
Learn to Swim 2 is for the beginner who is comfortable in the water but not swimming. This level has classes Tuesdays, 5-5:50 p.m.; or Saturdays, 10-10:50 a.m.
Learn to Swim 3-4 meets Tuesdays, 4-4:50 p.m. and 5-5:50 p.m.; Wednesdays, 5-5:50 p.m.; Thursdays, 6-6:50 p.m.; or Saturdays, 9:30-10:20 a.m.
Learn to Swim 5-6 classes are Tuesdays, 4-4:50 p.m.; Wednesdays, 9:30-10:20 a.m.; Thursdays, 5-5:50 p.m.; or Saturdays, 10:30-11:20 a.m.
Adapted lessons for children with Autism require an adult in the water. This class takes place Tuesdays, 3-3:50 p.m.
Shallow water exercise classes are held Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10-10:50 a.m. Cost varies depending on the number of classes pre-registered for.
The deep water exercise class meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-4:50 p.m. Cost varies depending on the number of classes pre-registered for.
The community center’s hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Swimming lessons have a $25 fee per participant. Non-residents will have an additional family fee of $50. For more information, call 764-2545 or visit www.pirec.org.
