When local PTO representative Nikki Guess asked for assistance from local industries for a recent shoe drive to help raise funds, she never expected a company to go above and beyond the way McCain Foods Inc did.
The Easton PTO has been collecting gently used shoes. They will earn funds based on the total weight of shoes collected. They will be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations.
Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and group businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families.
Enter McCain Foods. They agreed to help the PTO out and set up a competition between their four shifts. They offered prizes to the shift that collected the most. Over the four-week period, they were able to collect 960 pounds of shoes.
