Lisa Reed, Sunday school coordinator from the Lidstone United Methodist Church in Washburn, and the Sunday school class recently held a sub sandwich sale. Half of the money raised was donated back to the church’s building fund and the other portion was used for missions.
The children voted and agreed they wanted to set up a food cupboard, also known as a “blessing box,” in Washburn. It is located behind the library and is available to anyone who needs it. Students worshipped the Lord on Sunday by going to the store and shopping to fill the shelves and others assisted in the setup of the box.
The premise is simple: “Take what you need, leave what you can.” People are welcome to come and take whatever might be there that they have need of, or people can come and fill the shelves if they find they have been blessed.
