WASHBURN, Maine — Washburn District High School Winter Sports’ Awards program was held March 20 in the gymnasium. Athletic Director Ron Ericson presented opening remarks and welcomed everyone.
Caitlyn Roix presented awards to members of the cheering squad. Rachel Thurston received a pin. Hannah Killcollins and Breanna Jernigan earned letters. Jernigan was named the Coaches’ Award winner, Thurston received the Spirit Award and Killcollins was named the Most Improved Cheerleader.
Jon Poisson presented awards to the JV girls’ basketball team. Bobbi Campbell, Julia Dahlgren, Alexis Carney, Sam Churchill, Emma Johnston, Raegyn Chavez, Kyli Farley, Emerson Turner, Brianna Turner and Madison Miller all earned certificates. Kyli Farley was named Most Improved Player and Sam Churchill earned the Coaches’ Awardl.
Mike Hartford presented awards to the varsity boys’ basketball team. David Van Trump received a certificate. Josh Jackson, Zakkary Tracy, Noah White, Colby Hewitt, Carver Pendexter and manager Carly Bragg earned letters. Manager Rachel Driscoll, Bryce Roix, Caleb Thompson, McCall Turner, Quintin Thompson and Aiden Churchill received pins. Caleb Thompson was presented a third-year letter award. Caleb Thompson and Bryce Roix were awarded Coaches’ Awards. McCall Turner was awarded the Most Valuable Player. Turner also earned a certificate for All-Aroostook honors.
Tyler Putnam presented awards to the varsity girls’ basketball team. Skylar Mette, Maggie Castonguay, Kassie Farley, Kristen Sarmiento, Makenzie Vaughn, Alexis Carney, Sam Churchill, Julia Dahlgren, Mariah Davis and Mollie Clark received pins. Raegyn Chavez, Emerson Turner, Emma Johnston, Kyli Farley, Brianna Turner, Madison Miller and Bobbi Campbell earned letters. Kristen Sarmiento received a third-year letter award. Farley was named Most Valuable Player, Sarmiento the Coaches’ Award and Carney the Most Improved Player Award. Castonguay and Farley were recognized for having been named to the All Aroostook team.
AD Ericson presented sophomore Kassie Farley with a letter jacket for having achieved eight varsity letters.
