Dyer Brook residents OK municipal budget

DYER BROOK, Maine — As long as the town’s share for the Aroostook County tax and RSU 50 school budget are not too steep, residents in Dyer Brook should not see any increase in taxes.

According to Florence Hardy, town clerk for Dyer Brook, the town’s tax rate for 2017 should be fairly close to the existing rate of 14 mills. That plan, however, is also contingent on the state’s Homestead Exemption remaining in place. Governor Paul LePage is attempting to eliminate the Homestead Exemption as a way to save money at the state level.

A small group of about 12 residents participated in Dyer Brook’s annual town meeting Monday, March 20, to approve a municipal budget of $151,168. That figure is a slight decrease from the previous year, Hardy said.

Hazel Beers was re-elected to the town’s board of selectmen. She was running unopposed for the three-year term. Hardy was also re-elected as town clerk and Randy Curry was re-elected as treasurer.
