The Visiting Nurses of Aroostook will sponsor training for hospice volunteers beginning Wednesday, April 5, at 9 a.m. at the Whittier Congregational Church in Island Falls. This is training to assist with in-home end-of-life care and relief for family caregivers. For more information, please call Elinor Savage at 463-2465.
The Island Falls Recreation Department will hold a series of meetings for event planning beginning Wednesday, March 29, at 6:30 p.m. Several items are on the agenda, including plans for an Easter event, a Memorial Day weekend walk in memory of Zachary Bearor and Kelly Greene, beginning Summerfest planning and other events as suggested. Contact Ruth Frazier at 463-2263 for further information. Additional Rec Department meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, April 4, and Thursday, April 13, all at 6:30 p.m.
There will be open gym at Island Falls Municipal building on Wednesday, March 29, for all ages.
Town meeting and voting resulted in 2 new selectmen being elected. Frank Porter and Tony Bowers will be sworn in to the board in April. The new RSU 50 board representative is Laura Jones Farnsworth. Congratulations to all new officials and thank you to those who have served.
Remember that there are citizens’ committees working in conjunction with the selectman’s board to assist in some aspects of town duties. Volunteers are welcome. Check in at the town office to see what is available and express your interest in helping.
