MAPLETON, Maine — Sharon Pelkey, of Mapleton, ME passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Redding, CA on March, 7, 2017, at the age of 75. She was the daughter of Joseph and Esther Quaintance and was born in Bartley, NE.
Sharon held many jobs throughout her lifetime but her favorite was being a Cosmetologist. After her graduation she returned to school to become a cosmetology instructor in Redding, CA. In 1985, she moved to Mapleton, ME with her husband and worked for Northeast Publishing until her retirement.
Sharon was a talented and creative individual with many hobbies that included gardening, wood working, designing jewelry and sewing. Her favorite pastime was quilting. She made beautiful quilts for all of her children, grandchildren and others. Sharon enjoyed spending time with her family and the many days she spent quilting with her good friends at Stitching and Giving in Washburn and the Sit and Sew retreats that she attended.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Pelkey, Sr. of ME; daughter Kay and husband Dennis Hutsell of CA; step-daughter Debra Phillips of CA; step-daughter Susie and husband Bruce Jensen of CA; step-daughter Cheryl and husband Steve Aronson of CA; sister Patricia Elliott of CA: brother Roger and wife Delta Quaintance of NE; 11 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Sharon was predeceased by one sister, Joyce Swearingen of WA; one step-brother, John Feil, Jr. of WA; son, Rodney Carter of WA; son Rick Hodges of CA; step-son, Lawrence Pelkey, Jr of CA.; grandson, Robert Hodges, of WA; step-grandson Nicholas Pelkey of CA.
