Another week and we still have some of the best conditions out there. April 1 is here and you would never know it.
This past week most of The County received between 4 and 6 inches of new snow. Most projects are still grooming, but they are starting to slow down just a bit. What I have heard is that they will be out during the weekend and will see what the weather will do next week.
Some of the low-lying areas that are in the swamps are starting to break up. ITS 90W in the Woodland area has some holes; it is marked with caution signs. Trail 81 in New Sweden also has some areas where the water is eating away at the trail, and it is also marked.
With the warm temps predicted for the weekend, more of these areas might pop up so please keep this in mind.
Please remember that with the warmer temps during the day, clubs can only groom what they can work with once the temps cool off, so there may be some trails that will not be groomed as most projects have a lot of trail to take care of.
There are a few clubs that have called it a season, and just because they are done, this doesn’t mean that the trails are not good.
Meduxneakeag Ramblers, Central Aroostook Snowmobile Club, and Oxbow have all called it a winter. Trails, however, are still very rideable.
Ashland, Portage, Eagle Lake, Grand Isle, Madawaska, Fort Kent, Allagash, Saint Francis, Frenchville, Caswell, Limestone, Easton, Caribou, Presque Isle, Chapman, Walker Siding, Easton, Fort Fairfield, Nordic Lakers, Soldier Pond, Van Buren, Red Arrow, Washburn, and Aroostook River are all still grooming, not as much as during the height of the winter, but we are all still out.
On the social side
The Saint Francis Sno-Angels will have lunch at the clubhouse. Hot chicken and hot hamburg will be on the menu.
The Washburn Trailrunners’ clubhouse is closed for the season.
The Presque Isle Snowmobile Club serves chicken stew on Friday nights from 5-7.
