Driscoll earns top CTE student award

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Regional Career and Technical Center has announced Rachel Driscoll as its CTE student of the year.

According to PIRCTC director, Tim Prescott, Driscoll was chosen as PIRCTC student of the year from a large group of outstanding students.

“Rachel has distinguished herself at PIRCTC by participating in a litany of business classes including accounting, personal finance, business math, accounting II, accounting information systems, introduction to business, customer service and college algebra,” said Prescott.

Driscoll has also competed the last two years in the related technical math competition for SkillsUSA. Additionally, she has participated in the Future Business Leaders of America club and competed at the state level each of the last two years. As a junior, she earned first place in accounting II and second place in personal finance. As a senior Rachel earned first place in accounting I and II, as well as second place in personal finance, and third place in banking and financials, web design, and job interview.  

Additionally, Prescott noted, “Rachel has earned 26 college credits while in high school through our dual enrollment program with Northern Maine Community College.”

Active at her local high school, Washburn District High School, Driscoll is the secretary for the National Honor Society and a member of both the yearbook staff and varsity clubs.  She also serves as class secretary, a boys’ varsity basketball manager and a girls’ varsity softball player.

Along with her schoolwork, Driscoll also works a part-time job at the Maine Development Associates, where her primary responsibility is maintenance work.

PIRCTC staff congratulated her on her recognition.
