NEW SWEDEN, Maine – Gareth T. Johnson, 73, passed away April 1, 2017, at Portland. He was born October 16, 1943, in New Sweden, the son of the late Gilbert and Tillie (Anderson) Johnson.
He was a graduate of Caribou High School, and was a self-employed farmer in New Sweden for many years. He was a longtime member of the Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church. He married Dale Ouellette on February 14, 1999.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of New Sweden, are his daughter and son-in-law, Belinda “BJ” and Anthony Martino of Hudson, NH; two stepsons, Peter Deschenes and wife, Billie Jo, of Presque Isle and Raymond Deschenes and significant other, Karen Burke, of Eden, NC; a brother, Gaynor Johnson and wife, Diann, of Manchester, CT; a sister, Gail Stowe and husband, Ed, of Essex Junction, VT; and five grandchildren, Kayleigh Garcia, Sarah Thibodeau, Gabrielle Martino, Elizabeth, and Jacob Deschenes. Mr. Johnson was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Johnson; two sons, Gareth Jr. and Greg Claar; and an infant brother, Gary.
Friends may visit with the family at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2017, where funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Interment will be in the New Sweden Cemetery.
