CARIBOU, Maine — The top shooters in central and northern Aroostook County displayed their abilities at the Hotshot Regional Finals, held March 9 at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center.
Hotshots is a basketball competition which requires participants to shoot from five different “hot spots” in a one-minute time period. Points are awarded for made baskets and taken away if violations such as traveling and double dribbling are committed.
Winners were crowned in six divisions of competition. The best score of the day was recorded by Kaden Tardif of Mapleton, representing the Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department. He totaled a score of 136 to capture the 11-12 year-old boys’ division.
Madelynn Deprey of Caribou was the top girls’ scorer with 104 points while competing in the 9-10 division.
Winners and runners-up from all six divisions are as follows: 9-10 girls – first, Deprey; second, Amelia Godin of Caribou, 92; 9-10 boys – first, Dylan Bouchard of Caribou, 109; second, Keegan Bell of Caribou, 104; 11-12 girls – first, Jenna Cochran of Easton, 70; second, Hillary Driscoll of Washburn, 54; 11-12 boys – first, Tardif; second, Dawson Beaulieu of Presque Isle, 100; 13-15 girls, Macey Bartley of Presque Isle, 84; second, Portia Shaw of Presque Isle, 84; 13-15 boys – Camden Michaud of Easton, 119; second, Luc Perreault of Van Buren, 109.
Eighty six youths participated in the regional event, which also ended up serving as the state championship due to lack of numbers from throughout the state.
