2017 Miss Mapleton Pageants this Saturday

MAPLETON, ME – The Presque Isle High School Class of 2018 will sponsor the 2017 Miss Mapleton Pageants at the PIHS Auditorium on Saturday, April 8, at 7 p.m. The theme is “Be the Change.”

Paula Shaw, the pageant director, said, “I am so pleased to work with such a talented and eager group of young ladies in this year’s pageant. These young ladies will not only entertain you but also tell you how they will ‘Be The Change’ in the world.”

Five competitions will begin with the Little Miss Mapleton event, which was first held in 1980 during the Mapleton Centennial Celebration.

 The Pre-Teen, Junior Miss, Teen Miss and Miss Mapleton contests will follow.

This year’s Little Miss Mapleton contestants are: Emily Hallett, daughter of Chris and Andrea Hallett, who will sing “Carrie Sue”; and Madison Oakes, daughter of Bruce and Mindy Oakes, who will do a monologue titled “Mother Knows Best” from “Rapunzel.”

Two will vie for the pre-teen crown. Olivia Locke, daughter of Chris and Sherry Locke, will do a jazz dance to “Stray Cat Strut,” while Elizabeth Wing, daughter of Rick and Stephanie Wing, will do an Irish step dance to “Paddy’s Jig.”

Competing for Junior Miss are Libby Kinney, Keira Cyr and Meg Casavant. Kinney, daughter of Kevin and LeRae Kinney, will do a lyrical dance to “Rise Up.”

Keira, daughter of Wayne and Danielle Cyr, will perform a hip-hop dance to “Can’t Stop the Feeling.” Meg, daughter of Chris and Angel Casavant, will sing “Part of Your World” from “The Little Mermaid.”

Elizabeth Collins will seek the title of Teen Miss Mapleton by doing a lyrical dance to “Fix You.” Her parents are Darren and Michelle Collins.

Sarah Morneault will seek the 2017 Miss Mapleton crown. She will play “Fantasia in D Minor” on piano. Jeff and Regina Morneault are her parents.

The Miss Photogenic Contest will benefit the class of 2018; vote for your favorite contestant for $1 a vote.

Current reigning queens are: Little Miss Mapleton Rhianna Desjardins, daughter of Josh and Nikki Poisson and David Desjardins; Pre-Teen Miss Mapleton Rossalyn Buck, daughter of Barry and Martha Buck; Junior Miss Mapleton Delaney Alward, daughter of Chris and Wendy Maple and David Alward; and, Miss Mapleton Shaye McHatten, daughter of Matt and Kelly McHatten.

Admission is $7 per person, free for those under 4.

Ridge Runners update

The Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club will hold their monthly directors’ meeting tonight at 6:30 at the clubhouse.

On Saturday, April 8, members will host a Pizza Night at the clubhouse, with the annual election of club officers. The summer breakfasts will be discussed.

First Friday Luncheon

The Mapleton United Methodist Church will hold its regular First Friday Luncheon on Friday, April 7, at 11:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend. Lunch is free but donations are accepted.

Easter Services

The Mapleton United Methodist Church will conduct a Maundy Thursday Service on April 13 at 7 p.m. A prayer vigil will also be held on Good Friday at the church.

The Mapleton United Baptist Church will host its annual Easter Sunrise service and breakfast on April 16. The breakfast and short prayer service will start at 7 a.m. at the church. Everyone is welcome.
