BRIDGEWATER, Maine — A fire near a home in Bridgewater left a family of five and a family of three who share the same drinking well temporarily displaced Monday, April 3.

At approximately 4:48 p.m. Monday afternoon Bridgewater Fire Department responded to a shop fire at the end of the Montieth Road.

The fire started from mechanical maintenance performed on the equipment belonging to the Fuchs family, according to Bridgewater Fire Department.

In route to the fire, thick black smoke rising into the sky prompted fire chief Troy Bradstreet to call for additional water and crew resources from the Mars Hill Fire Department.

Dispatchers from the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office relayed to fire crews that flames were starting to penetrate the house.

Early notification to the 9-1-1 system and coordinated efforts between fire crews helped save the home.

Bridgewater Fire Department said the damage to the house was relatively minor and power was disabled, which temporarily displaced the Fuchs, a family of five, and the three members of the Binbar family who share the same water supply.
