CARIBOU, Maine — The National Weather Service in Caribou has issued a flood watch for portions of east central Maine, far northern Maine, north Central Maine, northern Maine and west central Maine, including northeast and northwest Aroostook County.

Issued at 3:06 p.m. today, April 11, 2017, the watch is in effect from 8 p.m. this evening through late Wednesday night.

Snowmelt in combination with rainfall and river ice will cause rivers to rise through Wednesday, NWS officials said. At the current time only minor flooding is anticipated.

A flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. The NWS advises residents to monitor forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
