PRESQUE ISLE, Maine —Katahdin Trust Company donated $500 to The County Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol on April 3, 2017. The squadron is comprised of members from Presque Isle, Caribou and surrounding communities.

“Our contribution will help Aroostook County cadets in need of financial assistance to attend Civil Air Patrol’s annual Maine encampment,” said Joe Clukey, assistant vice president of retail services.

“Developing interest in aviation and related fields is critical to our future economic prosperity in Aroostook County and beyond. In addition, we are pleased to be part of an effort that builds on the academic and leadership skills of our local young people,” Clukey said.

“The County Composite Squadron is a part of the Civil Air Patrol, the United States Air Force auxiliary,” explained 2nd Lt. James Ackerson, deputy commander for cadets. “For seven days, encampment immerses cadets in all areas of Civil Air Patrol’s mission in a way that just isn’t possible locally. They rub shoulders with cadets and leaders from across the state, and they receive leadership opportunities and training that are invaluable.

“We always see a difference in cadets after encampment; the confidence they gain is truly visible,” said Ackerson. “We’re grateful to Katahdin Trust for this donation. It will help put the encampment experience within reach of cadets’ families, and it will play an important role in raising up future leaders.”
