Once again, the Houlton Pioneer Times has teamed up with area schools to celebrate Newspapers in Education Week, by creating a special section inserted inside the April 12 edition.
This year students were asked to become newspaper advertising artists and copywriters as they created “advertisements” for participating sponsors. In addition, writing, artwork and photography by students from a variety of area schools and grades is featured in this year’s NIE edition. We would especially like to thank the Aroostook Right to Read organization for sharing work created for their annual Young Authors Institute, coming to the University of Maine at Presque Isle on May 5. We also thank the pupils, teachers and administrators who agreed to partner with us, as well as the businesses that provided the opportunity for the children to showcase their artistic abilities.
