BOSTON, Massachusetts — The seven local competitors all finished the April 17 Boston Marathon and three even came in the top 200 in their racing divisions.
Thirty six-year-old Tracy Guerrette of St. Agatha recorded the fastest time in the 26.2-mile race that begins in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, crossing the finish line in 3 hours, 5 minutes and 2 seconds. She was the 148th female finisher and was 128th in her age division.
Richard Hoppe of Portage Lake, 62, came in at 3:44:25, good for 158th in his division, while Don Audibert of Fort Kent, 63, had a time of 3:46:13, placing him 179th in the same division.
Other times of local finishers were: Justin Fereshetian of Mars Hill, 3:06:11; Thomas Wire of Island Falls, 3:19:42; Kayla Buck of Mapleton, 3:38:11; and Kimberley Wright of Mapleton, 4:47:29.
Fereshetian, Wire and Buck were all competing in Boston for the first time.
Warm weather greeted the estimated 30,000-plus runners for the 121st running of the event. The overall champion was Geoffrey Kirui of Kenya, who was just 21 seconds ahead of American Galen Rupp, who is from Portland, Oregon. The female winner was Edna Kiplagat of Kenya in 2:21:52.
