CARIBOU, Maine — Shirley Ann (McGraw) Thompson, 81, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2017, at her Caribou residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Caribou, November 12, 1935, the daughter of the late Steven and Hazel E. (Drost) McGraw.
Shirley wore many occupational hats over her lifetime, but most important to her was her family. She was a resident of Connecticut for a number of years, where she was a longtime participating member of the Foster Grandparents Organization of Eastern Connecticut. She was Nana Shirley to the entire Chaplin Elementary School. She returned home to Maine where she loved to participate in Friday night bingo with her Caribou Garden’s family, as well as listening to and singing along with gospel music. She loved her relationship with her God and loved her holy church family at Calvary Baptist Church, and Pastor Josh Presley.
She is survived by four brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Jeanette Turner of St. Petersburg, FL, Donald and Mary McGraw of Easton, PA, Irvine “Sonny” and Maryanne Patten of Cromwell, CT, and Charles and Debra Patten of Cape Coral, FL, four sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Terry Ryan of Smiths Creek, MI, Gloria and Bob Woolfenden of Annandale, VA, Edna and Ron Delese of Hudson, FL, Mary and Peter Spelman of Chaplin, CT, a sister-in-law, Jenny Jones of Caribou, “bunches and bunches and bunches” of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Thompson was predeceased by her husband, Robert Thompson, her siblings and their spouses, Henry and Dolores McGraw, Chester McGraw, Gordon and Nona McGraw, George McGraw, and Lettie and Roy Moody.
Friends called from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 17, 2017, at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, from the chapel of the Mockler Funeral Home with Rev. Josh Presley officiating.
