OVERLAND PARK, Kansas — The Association of Division III Independents has awarded a University of Maine at Presque Isle softball player with a special honor.
Nicole Marucci, a junior utility player from Naples, was named Player of the Week for the week ending April 16. She batted .636 with a home run, six runs batted in and five runs scored as her Owls won three of four games.
She had a huge performance in a 5-4 win over SUNY-Canton, going 3 for 3 with a homer and four RBI and also went 4 for 6 with four runs scored and two RBI in a doubleheader sweep of Lyndon State.
Through 22 games, Marucci is batting a team-best .421 for the Owls. Among players with at least 50 at-bats, she leads the squad in runs (22), doubles (six), triples (two), home runs (three), RBIs (22), on-base percentage (.492) and slugging percentage (.754).
