BLAINE, ME – Sybil Jean (Townsend) Pierce, 92, passed away Friday, April 21, 2017. She was born in Blaine on May 10, 1924, the daughter of Alton E. and Vera (Sylvester) Townsend.
Sybil was a member of Faith Baptist Chapel in Blaine from its formation in the early 1960’s. She was an avid reader and active patron of the Walter T. A. Hansen Memorial Library. Hundreds of the cards in the back of books bear her code #2 indicating that she had read the book.
She is survived by her son, Sylvanus Harold and wife Dorothy Pierce of E Plantation and her daughter Sharyl and husband Steven Hitchcock of Blaine, four grandchildren Nicole and husband Scott Riddell of Nashua, New Hampshire, Sylvanus Hume II and wife Joy Pierce of Oswego, Illinois, Sylvan Thorncraft and husband Tilman Reitzle of Scarborough, Maine, and Daniel Hitchcock and partner Melissa Novak of Gorham, Maine. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren, Alecxia and Nicholas Riddell; Alexandre, Marah, and Joel Pierce; Solievere Reitzle Thorncraft; and Caden Novak. Sybil is also survived by a brother Estle Townsend of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and a sister Dorothy Pierce of Presque Isle and a special nephew Douglas Pierce.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Sylvanus Hume Pierce, brothers Arthur, Harold, and Paul and a sister Binnie Giberson.
