HOULTON, Maine —The Houlton Police Department is bringing back its popular Citizens Police Academy.

Starting Thursday, May 25, members of the public will be able to gain first-hand knowledge of the daily routine of police officers in the Shiretown.

“We invite members of the public who have an interest in law enforcement, their police department and how we serve the community,” said Houlton Police Chief Tim DeLucca. “The classes are designed to give the participant an inside look at different aspects of the job. This will give the participant an understanding of the daily life of a police officer.”

Some of the classes will include: introduction to police procedures, the hiring process, police ethics, field training, how to be a good witness, investigations, vehicle stops, crime scene processing, crimes against victims, weaponry, drunk/drugged driving enforcement and more.

Classes will be hosted by a number of officers within the department and guest instructors.

Interested individuals are encouraged to visit the HPD website (https://houltonpolice.com/) or stop by the barracks for an application. All applicants will be vetted.
