Dave Mallett returns
Folksinger-songwriter Dave Mallett will appear in a special coffeehouse-style performance at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, in the Campus Center at UMPI.
Accompanied by his band, Mallett will perform songs from his new album “Celebration,” as well as works from his decades-long career. All are welcome; donations will be accepted at the door to go toward future cultural arts programming.
A beloved Maine troubadour whose career has spanned four decades and resulted in 17 albums, Mallett is known for his carefully written, poetic offerings.
In keeping with the coffeehouse theme, couches, cocktail tables and chairs will be available for seating throughout the performance space. There will be assorted cookies, scones, muffins, banana bread and assorted chocolates available for purchase, and UMPI will provide complimentary coffee, tea, hot chocolate, punch and water.
Safe Homes 5K
PRESQUE ISLE — Safe Homes Aroostook, which is a combination of the Hope & Justice Project and the Homeless Shelter of Aroostook, will hold the fifth annual Safe Homes 5K run/walk on Sunday, May 7, starting at the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Gentile Hall.
Registration will start at 12 noon and the race will start at 1 p.m. There will be activities in Gentile Hall for kids during the event.
Safe Homes Aroostook raises community awareness and funds for the Hope and Justice Project. DJ Adam Ouellette of Madawaska will provide musical entertainment at Gentile Hall. Event workers will be staff members from the two non-profit groups and UMPI student volunteers.
The cost is $20 per person and everyone who registers will get a free T-shirt as long as they last.
