Vikings, Shires to try again today
The Caribou baseball and softball teams are slated to host Houlton today, Thursday, April 27, 2017 in a make-up game beginning at 4 p.m. The contest was originally scheduled for the previous afternoon, but was postponed due to rain and wet field conditions.
The games were also originally scheduled to be played at Houlton, but have been moved north to Caribou because the Shires’ fields are not playable, according to RSU 29 Athletic Director Bruce Nason.
The Vikings will play a regular season contest for the first time, while the Shires already played games against Orono April 25, with the softball team winning and the baseball team taking the loss.
Fort Fairfield plays for the second time this season this afternoon at 4 p.m. in Mars Hill against the Central Aroostook Panthers, who will make their season debuts. The Tiger boys downed Southern Aroostook April 25, while the girls fell to the Warriors.
Hodgdon baseball and softball were slated to play at Katahdin Thursday, but the Cougars’ fields were not ready. The games have been moved to Saturday at noon at Hodgdon.
In tennis action, Caribou is scheduled to host Fort Kent Thursday at 4 p.m.
Presque Isle was supposed to make the trip south to square off against Houlton Thursday at 3:30 p.m., but the match will now be held Friday, April 28 at the same time.
The Viking tennis teams, both sporting 2-0 records, were scheduled to play Washington Academy in East Machias April 22, but the match was postponed. Instead, Caribou will take on the Raiders at 12:30 p.m. this Saturday, April 29 in Presque Isle following WA’s scheduled 11 a.m. match against the Wildcats.
Ashland’s softball and baseball teams were scheduled to open against Southern Aroostook in Dyer Brook April 26, but the game has been moved to May 3 with a 3:30 p.m. start time.
