Mill Pond Dairy Bar changes ownership

HODGDON, Maine — Rest easy ice cream lovers, although the name has changed, the menu and quality of service has not.

Libby’s Mill Pond Dairy Bar is now under new management as Vona and David Libby have sold the business to their daughter. The eatery was re-established as Anderson’s Mill Pond Dairy Bar for its grand opening Thursday, April 27.

Megan Anderson said her parents bought the business 10 years ago from Nancy Manton and Anderson has helped her parents run the dairy bar ever since.

“My mother put the idea out there for us to buy it a couple of years ago,” Megan said. “Then my husband, Andrew, called me up from work one day out of the blue and said ‘Hey, why don’t we buy the dairy bar?’ I was surprised. I never really put a whole lot of thought into it because he has always worked in the woods.”

Mill Pond Dairy Bar has a strong history of providing locals with tasty and affordable foods and sweets. Featuring a full array of burgers, hot dogs, a variety of french fries (frozen, hand cut, sweet potato, curly fries, waffle fries, homemade chips and beer battered), fried seafood, steak and cheese sandwiches and salads.

“There will be no changes to the menu, but we may add in a few things,” Megan said. “All the special sauces and things unique to this dairy bar will remain.”

For ice cream, the Andersons will continue serving Gifford’s hard ice cream, as well as Hood soft-serve ice cream. Vanilla and chocolate will always be offered, along with a special flavor of the week.

The Anderson’s have two children, Libby, 10, and Hunter, 5. Megan said her daughter is excited to help out when she can at the dairy bar, but her son “would rather be outside digging worms and going fishing.”

Anderson’s mother Vona will continue to help out in the business.

“It will be very different,” Vona said. “My goal when I bought it was to give it 10 years. Last year was our 10th year. We wanted the business to go to family if possible. The business is here and it’s a good option for Megan and Andrew. I think they will do very well.”

Anderson’s Mill Pond Dairy Bar opened for the season April 27 and will remain open into September. The dairy bar is open Sundays to Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, it will remain open until 8 p.m.
