Wildcat girls win track meet

DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — The Presque Isle girls opened their track and field season impressively by winning an eight-team meet Saturday, April 29.

The Wildcats scored 147 points, which was 47 more than runner-up Washington Academy. Host Foxcroft Academy took third place with 88 points. Athletes from Houlton, Greater Houlton Christian Academy, Fort Fairfield, Greenville and Washburn also participated.

Presque Isle’s individual victories were secured by Kamryn Gilmour in the 1,600-meter race walk with a time of 10 minutes and 43.8 seconds; Isabelle Jackson in the 1,600-meter run at 6:09.85, Tori Koch in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.34 and the 200-meter dash in 28.52 seconds, Madison Jandreau in the 3,200-meter run in 13:41.36, Eleanor St. Peter in the triple jump with a mark of 29 feet and 7-1/4 inches and Maddie Wing in the javelin with a mark of 90 feet, 6 inches.

The 4×400-meter relay team, consisting of Koch, Elizabeth Moreau, Jackson and Jandreau, was victorious in 4:44.89.

Jaydyn Fox of Fort Fairfield was first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 21.29 seconds.

On the boys’ side, PI placed fourth overall with 81 points. Foxcroft won the meet with 126, followed by Washington Academy and Houlton. Fort Fairfield placed fifth with 73 and Washburn tallied eight points on the day.

The Wildcats were able to sweep all three relays. The 4×800-meter relay team of Max Bartley, Trace Cyr, Jonah Clark and Carter Jackson pulled off a win in 9:49.17 and the 4×100-meter relay team of Kyler Caron, Cameron Lahey, Jason Dumais and Chan Villatora also was victorious in 48.98 seconds. The 4×400 team of Dumais, Drew Cameron, Cyr and Villatora also won in 4:10.68.

Cyr took the 400-meter dash in 56.18 seconds for the Wildcats’ lone individual win.

The Tigers featured some individual winners as Jonah Daigle won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.77 seconds, the 300-meter hurdles in 44.68 seconds and the long jump with a mark of 19 feet and 2-1/2 inches. Colin Goshorn came in first in the pole vault by clearing 11 feet.
