Betty A. (Mortensen) Edgecomb

FORT FAIRFIELD AND PRESQUE ISLE, ME – Betty A. (Mortensen) Edgecomb, 87, wife of the late Burnice E. Edgecomb, Jr. passed away Friday afternoon, April 28, 2017 at Cary Medical Center in Caribou, following complications with pneumonia.

She was born February 9, 1930 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Svend E. and Maybell (Chapman) Mortensen. Betty resided in Fort Fairfield and graduated from high school in 1947. She met and married the love of her life Burnice E. Edgecomb Jr. They continued to live in Fort Fairfield for fifty years. After raising three children, Betty at the age of 40 returned to school to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse. Upon retirement, Betty and her husband spent many wonderful years traveling.
In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Burnice E. Edgecomb Jr.; and two brothers, Philip and William “Bill” Mortensen.
Betty is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David Sr. and Rose Edgecomb, Michael and Karen Edgecomb, all of Fort Fairfield; one daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Ronald Sites of Mapleton; 10 grandchildren and spouses, Adam and Angela Rider of Mapleton, David Jr. “Jay” and Diana Edgecomb of Raymore, MO, Steven and Sheryl Edgecomb of Hancock, Daniel and Alyson Adams of Fort Fairfield, Brian Edgecomb, Keith Edgecomb and his friend Randi Kaplan and Michael Edgecomb and friend Christine Ouellette, all of Presque Isle, Jennifer Bennett and Michael Bennett, both of Hampden, Angela Sites Georgiev and Ev of Laconia, NH; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Betty also had a very special friend, Karen Winslow. A special thank you goes out to the Presque Isle Fire Department and Ambulance crew and the Cary Medial Center Emergency Room Staff. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be conducted Friday, May 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield with Rev. Mark Babin officiating. A time with family and friends with refreshments will be held after the service at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mrs. Edgecomb to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children – Boston, Attention: Development, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114.
