FORT KENT AND PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Isabelle D. Gardner, 89, passed away peacefully in Fort Kent on April 25, 2017. She was born April 6, 1928 in Van Buren, the sixth child of Wilfred and Rosalie (Pelletier) Daigle, and was raised in Fort Kent where she graduated from Fort Kent High School in 1947.
Isabelle was employed by the FHA in Van Buren and later moved back to Fort Kent where she worked as a bank teller. There she met and married her husband, Donald L. Gardner. They were married on August 27, 1959, and moved to Bangor while Donald attended school. In 1962, they settled in Presque Isle and raised two daughters, Gisele L. (Gardner) MacDonald, and Michelle M. Gardner. Isabelle was an active member of the Presque Isle Circle of the Daughters of Isabella for many years. She was also a past member of the Fort Kent BPW. Isabelle was a wonderful cook and shared her talents with many family, friends and church events. Isabelle enjoyed playing the piano and spending time at camp in Eagle Lake.
She was predeceased by her husband, parents, brother Oscar and sister-in-law Katherine Daigle of Oklahoma City, brother Ferdinand and sister-in-law Magdalene Daigle of Stoneham, MA, sister Jeanne and brother-in-law Sonny Fontaine of Auburn, sister Helen Daigle of Fort Kent, and brother Louis and sister-in-law Mary Daigle of Fort Kent.
She is survived by her daughters Gisele and her husband Danny MacDonald of Caribou, Michelle and her fiancé Eric Shelton of El Paso, TX, her brother Ludger L. (Keck) and sister-in-law Theresa Daigle of Wakefield, RI, grandson Bryan MacDonald of Reston, VA, granddaughter Danielle (MacDonald) and her husband Lucas Theriault of Hampden, and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Crosswinds Residential Care Facility in Fort Kent for their kindness, care and attention to Isabelle’s needs where she has resided for the last 5 years.
Friends and family called on Saturday, April 29, 2017, from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church Street, Presque Isle, followed by a Mass of Christian burial, Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Presque Isle at noon. Donations may be made in her memory to the House of Comfort, PO Box 867, Presque Isle, ME 04769. Spring interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Presque Isle.
