PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The United Way of Aroostook will hold its annual meeting on Wednesday, June 7, from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Campus Center.
Staff and volunteers are preparing for the meeting and awards presentations. The meeting will consist of a breakfast followed by a brief business meeting to install new members to the board of directors. Attendees will also enjoy a performance by this year’s Northern Star, 13-year-old violinist Hope Chernesky.
The cost to attend the meeting is $15 per person.
The United Way will present awards to the top 10 campaigns, and will also announce the Volunteer of the Year, Agency of the Year, Business of the Year and Community Partner Award. The agency will also recognize volunteers and businesses who have supported the work of the United Way throughout the year.
In addition, staff will announce the agencies who have been accepted for funding. The agencies receiving the funds support health and human service programs throughout Aroostook County to the benefit of the area’s neediest citizens. More than $200,000 will be given to local agencies. In addition to those funds, the United Way also supports 211 Maine, Dress A Child Program, Santa’s Sleigh Project, Summer Gap Feeding, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, fuel assistance, and other projects for a total contribution of over $400,000.
