PRESQUE ISLE, ME – Laurina B. Fields, 95, passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 7, 2017, at The Aroostook Medical Center. She was born April 7, 1922, in Wallagrass, the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Michaud) Billier.
She moved to Presque Isle at the age of 22 and worked at City Drug Store and Marstons before her employment at Zayre Department Store, where she worked for many years and retired. From a young age she has been a gatherer, picking wild strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, apples and fiddleheads. It was required for survival back in hard times. At the age of 95 she was still cooking every day. It was nothing for her to put a last minute meal together for company, including a pan of biscuits. She always had cookies, brownies, squares and other culinary delights in her home. If she wasn’t cooking she was knitting dish cloths, sewing or crocheting Christmas angels to decorate her children’s Christmas trees. She never stopped. There was always something else that she could do. Though all of these things were important, nothing mattered more to her than her children. Everything that she did was with them in mind.
Laurina is survived by a son, Brian Fields and his wife, Donna, of Caribou; four daughters, Carla Hayward and her husband, Miles, of Powder Springs, GA, Deborah Bandelow and her husband, Thomas, of Anchorage, Alaska, Marsha DeCarlo and Tania Graham, both of Presque Isle; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Ben and Simona Fields of Caribou, Leslie and Pat Otto of Brunswick, Chad and Laura Fields of Dallas, GA, Terah and Welles Smith of Fernandina Beach, FL, Jennifer LeTourneau of Anchorage, AK, Wendy and Matt McKinney of Topsham, Nicola McNally of Presque Isle, Dale Graham and Heather Graham, both of Presque Isle; and 17 great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Parish of the Precious Blood. Interment will be at North Main Street Catholic Cemetery. Donations may be made in her memory to H.O.P.E., P.O. Box 625, Caribou, ME 04736. Online condolences may be shared at www.duncan-graves.com.
