A soggy spring continues to pose problems for local baseball, softball and tennis squads.

Games scheduled for Wednesday, May 10, include: Fort Fairfield baseball/softball at Southern Aroostook, 3:30 p.m.; Hodgdon baseball/softball at Woodland, 4 p.m.; Katahdin baseball/softball at Stearns, 4:30 p.m.

Calais baseball/softball was supposed to play at Houlton, but that game has been postponed to 4 p.m. Monday, May 15, due to standing water on the Houlton fields. Washburn baseball/softball also was scheduled to play East Grand in Houlton, but those games have been postponed. No makeup date has been scheduled.

John Bapst was supposed to play a baseball doubleheader in Caribou. That now will be played May 22 beginning at 2 p.m. Ashland was scheduled to host Madawaska, but that game also has been called off and instead will be made up May 17 as part of a doubleheader in Madawaska beginning at 2 p.m.

Presque Isle’s scheduled tennis match at Fort Kent has been postponed and will be made up as part of a doubleheader in Presque Isle on May 18.

The following is a recap of games and matches played Tuesday.

Baseball

Katahdin 16, Hodgdon 15 — At Hodgdon, the Cougars rallied from a 15-9 deficit by plating seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Hodgdon and improve to 5-0 on the season. With the loss, Hodgdon drops to 4-3.

The game was scheduled to be held at Katahdin, but the Cougars home field remains unplayable due to wet conditions.

Zach Hagan had two singles to lead Katahdin. As a team, the Cougars collected just five hits as Dalton Hartt, Devin McGraw, John McNally all had one single. Hodgdon also generated just five hits with Ben Tuttle collecting two singles, Andrew Tuttle belting a double, and Will Belyea and Josh Foster each adding a single.

Both team’s struggled with pitching due to the steady rain that fell. Katahdin drew 12 walks, while Hodgdon collected 13 walks.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, and trailing 15-9, Cougar Rigoberto Otero was hit by a pitch and McNally and Caleb Giles both walked to load the bases. After the next two Cougars struck out, Hartt and Cooper Drew both drew walks to plate runs, making it 15-11 in favor of Hodgdon.

Hagan then laced a two-run single to left field, scoring Giles and Hartt. McGraw then drew a walk, followed by Otero (in his second plate appearance of the inning), who hit a ground ball to second that was misplayed allowing two runs to score to tie the game at 15-15.

McNally delivered the game-winning hit as he rapped a single to left field, scoring McGraw.

Ben Tuttle, Andrew Tuttle, Dillan Buzzell and Will Belyea all pitched for Hodgdon, combining for 18 strikeouts. Brody Guiggey, Drew, Hartt, Otero and Blake Howes pitched for Katahdin, combining for 11 strikeouts.

Presque Isle 5, Fort Kent 2 At Presque Isle Tuesday, Jonah Hudson singled twice and drove in two runs to lead the Wildcats past the Warriors. Brad Kinney doubled and scored two runs for 2-4 Presque Isle. Jacob Daigle and Nathan Michaud singled for Fort Kent, which suffered its first loss after opening with two victories.

LCS/MSSM 14, Central Aroostook 8 — At Mars Hill, the Eagles scored seven first-inning runs en route to their first win of the season Tuesday over the Panthers. Matthew Pelkey and Karter Whitman each recorded three singles for the 1-2 winners, while Caleb Harris singled twice for 1-3 Central Aroostook. Whitman was the LCS/MSSM starting pitcher and got the win, while Harris took the loss.

Softball

Hodgdon 15, Katahdin 6 — At Stacyville, the Hawks (7-0) soared to their seventh straight victory Tuesday to remain perfect on the season. Taylor Desrosiers pitched the win, scattering six runs on 19 hits and one walk, with two strikeouts.

Lilly Cullen pitched the loss for Katahdin as she yielded 15 runs on 21 hits and eight walks with 10 strikeouts.

Leading the hit parade for Hodgdon were Sidney Crane (3 singles, double), Kora Lambert (2 singles, double), Tabitha Ganzel (3 singles), Janelle Goff (3 singles), Kendra Gesko (single, double), Megan Russell (2 doubles), Jordyn McKissick (2 singles), and Desrosiers and Autumn Ganzel, one single each.

For Katahdin (0-5), Erin Lake led the way with a double and two singles, while Kelsey Hamm, Hannah Drew, Josie Brownlee, Kendra Patterson, Lindsay Drew, Cullen and Jordyn Gardner each had two hits.

Presque Isle 14, Fort Kent 2 — At Presque Isle Tuesday, sophomore pitcher Sydney Thompson only gave up three hits to go along with 10 strikeouts as her Wildcats prevailed.

Thompson aided her own cause at the plate with a single, a double and two RBIs. Anna Trombley and Kayla Saucier chipped in with two singles apiece for 2-4 Presque Isle. Fort Kent’s record dropped to 0-2.

LCS/MSSM 18, Central Aroostook 2 — At Mars Hill Tuesday, Marissa Emery tripled and doubled as the Eagles broke into the win column for the first time by blasting the Panthers. Delaney Rossignol had nine strikeouts to earn the pitching win for the Eagles. Caitlyn Harris compiled eight strikeouts for 0-4 CA in the loss.

Tennis

Mattanawcook Academy girls 4, Houlton 0 — At Houlton, the individual results, with Shires listed first were: in singles, Sydney Lorom lost to Sydney Morrison, 3-8; and Maddie Grant fell to Katie Libby, 1-8. Third singles was not played due to rain. In doubles, Nadia Messerschmidt and Tessa McCormick lost to Emily Tolman and Sydney Jones, 0-8; and Carolyn Hannigan and Grace Johnson lost to Sarah Hanington and Delany Kneeland, 0-8.

Mattanawcook Academy boys 4, Houlton 0 — At Houlton, the individual results, with Shires listed first were: in singles, Owen Gallop lost to John Farmington, 4-8; and Devin Ivey fell to Dave Susen, 0-8. In doubles, Jaron Gentle and Isaac Vega lost to Alex Brown and Tyler Tolman, 1-8; and Tim Youngfellow and Nate Delucca fell to Devin Maynard and Joe Susen, 4-8.

Caribou boys 5, Madawaska 0 — At Madawaska, the individual results, with the Vikings listed first, were: in singles, Alec Cyr blanked Ben Hebert, 8-0; Parker Deprey shut out Lance Lavoie, 8-0; and Gabriel Rand eased past Matt Cyr, 8-0. In doubles, Emerson Duplissie-Cyr and Bailey Griffeth topped Alex Daigle and Anthony Daigle, 8-1; and Seth Beidelman and Aidan Plante defeated Andrew Nadeau and Vincent Gillette, 8-3.

Caribou girls 5, Madawaska 0 — At Madawaska, the individual results, with the Vikings listed first, were: in singles, Gabrielle Marquis was victorious over Isabelle Jandreau, 8-1; Kelly Nicklaus stopped Abby Gonneville, 8-1; and Ashley Matlock bested Paige Brown, 8-1. In doubles, Conner Spencer and Hailey Holmquist came out on top over Kathryn Bosse and Katelyn Beaulieu, 8-1; while Ciara Richards and Danielle Hansen prevailed over Raleigh Toussaint and Hailey Vanier, 8-2.
